Community Separators in Sonoma County
In 1990, Sonoma County voters passed Measures A and C. Measure A established the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District. Measure C called for a 20 year, ¼ percent sales tax to fund agricultural preservation and open space acquisition.
The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District is responsible for implementing the Open Space and Agricultural Resources Elements of the 1989 Sonoma County General Plan.
The District acquires land or conservation easements only from willing sellers. It has no power of eminent domain.
The District’s Mission Statement:
The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District permanently preserves the diverse agricultural, natural resource and scenic open space lands of Sonoma County for future generations. To this end, the District conserves greenbelts between cities (community separators), farmland, biological resources, wildlife habitat and land for public recreation."
